Notes:

PEARLS BEFORE SWINE

This project had always been in my head.
Throughout the many years spent trying to make a living from music, I sometimes encountered musical realities that would have deserved a spotlight they never had, and other people's songs that I envied, at the time presented to an audience too often distracted (pearls given to swine, indeed).
Songs I wished I had written.
First came the title, years ago, then the songs accumulated, some very unknown, some more famous.
In mid-autumn 2015, Rossofuoco and I locked ourselves in a studio in the hills south of Bologna, and in a few days, we made these pearls our own; we finished the work between Bassano del Grappa and home.
In the end, I realized that, with a couple of exceptions, it's a kind of anthology of my small Italian-speaking musical world.

A small guide to the pearls.

01 Pesci e Sedie (Fish and Chair)
CORMAN & TUSCADU was a French band from the early '90s. The song comes from their first album released by New Rose
in 1990 and was re-recorded on the album "Jaune & Noir" released in 1993 in Italy by C.P.I. Originally the
lyrics were in English, the translation is 99% literal, so the madness that pervades these words is entirely Marc
Simon's, who wrote and sang them first. Claude Saut, the other voice and supporting pillar of the band, was
then for years Rossofuoco's bassist, co-author of many songs together. In this version, Angela Baraldi's voice acts as my alter ego.

02 A.F.C. (Angelo Fausto Coppi)
This is a song by L'UPO, a band from the Milan area that had already released various works under the name "Fuori
Orario." A.F.C. also gave its name to their 1997 album released by Baracca & Burattini.

03 Tutto è così semplice (Everything is so simple)
This is perhaps the rarest pearl, the least known song among those on this album. It comes from a mini-album released by "Aiuola Dischi" in 2005; the songwriter is "MACROMEO" alias "Emme Stefani."

04 Un giorno come tanti (An ordinary day)
MARY IN JUNE is a band from Rome that is currently releasing a new album containing this song, which was first published in 2011 in the compilation "Il Sottosuono volume 3" by the eponymous Roman music magazine. Ale Morini, the band's frontman, sings with me in these desperate choruses.

05 Canzone Dada (Dada Song)
From a text by Tristan Tzara, this is a song that appeared in 1983 on the first self-produced mini-album by PLASTICOST, a truly "ahead of its time" cult band from Veneto that centered its music around the surreal performances of Sergio FOX Volpato.

06 Lacrimogeni (Tear Gas)
There are some songs on this album that are not so unknown. Lacrimogeni is one of them. From LE LUCI DELLA CENTRALE ELETTRICA's first album, "Canzoni da spiaggia deturpata," released in 2008 by La Tempesta dischi, here's an example of envy... I truly wish I had written this song.

07 Mi vuoi bene o no? (Do you love me or not?)
From the album of the same name released in 1993 by RCA, here's a torrent of words, a song by ANGELA BARALDI. In this version, Gigi Ramone sings backing vocals for me.

08 Buon Anno (Happy New Year)
from "J'accuse, amore mio," Fausto Rossi's third album, released by Ascolto CGD in 1980 under the name FAUST'O.

09 Storie di ieri (Stories from yesterday)
I had wanted to sing it in public for forty years... the opportunity came with an invitation from the Kilowatt Festival three years ago to participate in "Sei Pezzi Facili," where I was asked to reinterpret six songs that weren't mine... since then, it has been present in all my solo concerts, and now I've infected Rossofuoco too. Definitely the most well-known song on this album. From "Rimmel" (RCA 1975) it's FRANCESCO DE GREGORI.

10 Richiamo (Recall)
These are FRIGIDAIRE TANGO, one of the coolest bands of the Italian new wave; the track, originally in English, is taken from the self-produced EP "Russian Dolls" from 1983. Steve DalCol, the band's guitarist, has been part of Rossofuoco's lineup for several years now.

11 F-104
EUGENIO FINARDI from the album "Finardi" released in 1981 by Fonit Cetra. A pearl of rage, always very current.

12 Gambe di Abebe (Abebe's Legs)
This is another very rare pearl. It's LUC ORIENT, a group from Trieste that released this single in 1984 for CGD. I remember this song having some airtime on TV; the band was too wild for the mainstream audience... the refrain stayed in my head for years, until today.

13 Luna Viola (Purple Moon)
This is the only previously released track on the entire album. Recorded a few years ago with Claude Saut on bass, it was present in the compilation "Generazioni," a tribute to Umberto Palazzo's SANTO NIENTE, in which many Italian bands participated. The original version was on the album "Il Fiore dell'Agave" released in 2005.

Enjoy listening.
